Advanced Engineering Show 2019
NEC, Birmingham, UK, 30th/31st October 2019
Enjoyed a great two days at the Advanced Engineering Show at the NEC this week. Many thanks to the organisers for a well run show. A huge event, with hundreds of companies represented across three halls. A busy show for TTIP, with a presentation to deliver, two conference sessions to chair, multiple meetings with potential clients and plenty of catching up with old friends. Already looking forward to the next event.
The show started early on the first day for TTIP with my presentation on 'Transforming Advanced Engineering Technologies into Profit', which addressed how to guide new product and technology ideas through the many layers of organisational structure and corporate hurdles that they have to deal with before they can become successful new products. Coming up with a great idea for an innovative product is just the start of a complex and lengthy process of making it into commercial reality and there are too many stumbling blocks along the way that can derail a great idea. The presentation challenged businesses that ‘The Biggest Barrier to Innovation is your own Business’ by highlighting the Organisational, Process and Cultural barriers that businesses face. This is an important topic for the Advanced Engineering industry because many people get wrapped up in the excitement of their new technology, but have little concept of the real world struggle they will face to manoeuvre it successfully through a business to make it a commercial reality.
After over 30 years working in different industry sectors, amazing to cross paths professionally with my own brother Paul at the Show.
Enjoyed an interesting Innovation Tour around a variety of company booths.
