The UK is home to a number of leading technical ceramic manufacturers, research institutes and Universities. Over the last decade the ceramic industry has been experiencing significant growth with record levels of exports being achieved. The Financial Times reported last year that some ‘UK manufacturers have secured nine consecutive years of double-digit growth’. Industry leaders in the UK have played a key role in successfully developing the next generation of technical ceramics. This session will provide an overview of the ceramic industry in the UK, along with leading insights into how UK technology partnerships and innovations are impacting the global growth of the technical ceramic industry.

          Tony Kinsella (Chief Executive, Lucideon)
Laura Cohen (Chief Executive, British Ceramic Confederation)
Alan McLelland (VP Technology, Technical Ceramics Division, Morgan Advanced Materials)

Day 2; Thursday 11th July

9:30 – 10:30 – Transforming Advanced Materials Technologies into Profit

This presentation, by Dr Andy Wynn, addresses how to guide new products and technologies through the many layers of organisational structure and corporate hurdles that they have to deal with before they can become successful new products. A great idea for an innovative product is just the start of a complex and lengthy process of turning this into a commercial reality. Often there are too many stumbling blocks along the way that can derail a great idea. This presentation will review examples of advanced ceramic, carbon and refractory products that Andy and his teams developed. It highlights the Organisational barriers, Process barriers and Cultural barriers that businesses face and presents techniques on how to deal with them.
